ChumpCar World Series The wacky world of ChumpCar racing comes to BIR
The ChumpCar World Series - North America's home for $500 race cars and endurance racing - is coming to BIR June 5-6, and you don't want to miss this. The series will be competing on BIR's 2.5-mile Competition Road Course and will feature hunks of screaming junk that are held together with duct tape and bailing twine. It's grassroots racing for people who like to wrench on their cars, drive fast and have a blast doing it. If this sounds like you, check out the ChumpCar Web site and sign up a team for BIR's event.
The BIR event will feature two seven-hour Enduros races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Teams are required to have a minimum of four drivers who take shifts driving. Prize money is awarded to the top three teams both days, with $750 going to the winner.
The series rules are pretty simple: Your race car can't be worth more than $500 but it requires specific safety equipment. You also need a ChumpCar Competition License, which you can get by enrolling in the two-hour ChumpCar Driver's School prior to the race at a cost of $25.
Curious fans who want to check out the ChumpCar World Series can also wander over to BIR's drag strip, where the BIR Bracket Drag Racing Series will be taking place. It'll be the second race in the five-race series, featuring more than 350 amateur drag racers from throughout the Midwest. One ticket gets you into both events, and you can go back and forth freely between tracks. And if you're concerned about the weather (rain can delay drag racing), the ChumpCars will be racing rain or shine.
Daily admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12.
This is right up my alley
