Hi,
Just wanted to say THANKS for the hospitality from everyone at the Thunder Bay ice races this past Sunday. I know the weather wasn't the best but in a way it adds to the fun. This was the fifth ice race I have seen in 2012 and the only one where it was not basically sunny and warm.
Special thanks go to Gary Adomko for giving me a call in advance and providing some great driving directions. Also to Curtis for getting us setup in the pace van with the race director and his daugher. This allowed me to get some video and photos from the middle of the track. Also, thanks to Mark Stewart and another driver (whose name I lost) for offering a ride in their race cars. It was great to meet Ray Dorval your radio announcer as well.
The day before I came to Thunder Bay I ran into the world's #2 trackchaser, Ed Esser, at an ice race in Superior, Wisconsin. I convinced him to ride along with me to Thunder Bay. Although Ed has seen more than 1,400 tracks this was his FIRST ever track visit outside the U.S.
After each track I visit I post both a review of the trip (called a Trackchaser Report) as well as video and photos of the racing and the touring. I'm about ten days behind in posting my reports, so I should have Thunder Bay posted in less than two weeks. You can see it all on my site at www.randylewis.org.
I hope you all have a great last ice racing weekend next week. Again, thanks for treating us so well. If anyone is interested in joining my Trackchaser Report distribution list (more than 1,000 people) just shoot me an email at ranlay@yahoo.com and you'll be updated after each track visit. If you'd only like to get the international (that's outside the U.S. for me) you can do that too.
One question. What is the "official name" name of your track? Right now I'm calling it "Lake Superior at Thunder Bay Ice Track" but will change it if there is an official name.
Thanks!
