For those that missed the last general meeting, we went over the current $60 gate fee. Due to a decreased car count this season, we are raising the gate fee by $10. For those that aren't happy with the change, here is the breakdown of how we arrived at this decision:
After taking into consideration the cars that attended tech and calling each racer that participated last season to gauge interest, we have come up with a number of only 15 cars that will be racing a full season this year. It will costs us just under $20,000 to put on the 2015 Ice Racing season. Having brought in $8,025 in sponsorship (up from last year) and membership money, that leaves us to cover $11.5K.
Keeping a $60 gate would bring us a loss of just over $2,500. Even at $70, it leaves us in the hole about $1,000 but that amount is easier to recoup via other sources (donations from spectators, banquet, etc.)
This season the club has had to make some capital purchases like a new hydraulic pump and an update to the timing and scoring software. We also have some funds set aside for a timing and scoring system for summer events. If we have more cars come out this season then anticipated, we will not hesitate to drop it back down to $60.
